Tommy Merry's Gear/Setup

Ibanez JEM77FP 89'

I have two of these. The one shown is my main axe and can be heard on all of my recordings. I've had it for about 17 years and it is the best guitar I have ever layed my hands on. The pattern on the guitar isn't paint, but actualy cloth that's laminated on to the body.. It's said that when Ibanez approached Steve Vai about making this signature model, he asked them to use the material from his living room couch! I just recently picked up my second one also made in '89. In my opinion, Ibanez are the best guitars made on the planet!

Update: Feb 22, 2007 - My Lil's Witch just bought me a Jem77BRMR for my 14th year anniversary. How blessed can one man be!
TC Electronic G-Major Guitar Effects Processor

This is the sweetest processor I found (next to its bigger brother the G-major, which had many features I didn't need). Also a cool feature of this FX unit is that it goes in-line between my preamp and the amp (as opposed to using an effects loop as most units do). The cool part of doing this is that the G-Force's built in hush circuitry and noise gate can silence things up between chords and leads when I'm not playing. It also has a built in tuner so I didn't need my Korg DTR1 Rack Tuner anymore.
Marshall JMP1 Midi Preamp

This is the heart of my guitar tone. This preamp goes from crystal clean, to monster power crunch, to ripping leads. The great part about it is, like most of my rackmount gear it's all MIDI controllable. So when I hit a patch change on the MidiBuddy foot pedal, it changes the guitar tone as well as the effect in the GSP 21 all at once.
Mesa Simul2:90

The best power amp I have ever found! I used a Marshall 8080 for many years but it kept blowing up and needing repair. I also bought and returned a Marshall EL34/100 because the support was so slow and the parts were unavailable most of the time. I tried a Rocktron as a replacement for a while but blew it up too. Are we seeing a pattern?? This Mesa has been solid as a rock from day 1!! This power amp is plugged in to the stereo inputs of a single Marshall 4X12 cab.
MP128 MidiBuddy Foot controller

This is the MIDI pedal that I use to send out all of the patch changes. The signal goes from the pedal into the Marshall JMP1, and then a jumper MIDI chord connects the *out* of the Marshall into the *in* of the G-Major. So for instance when I hit patch #1 it brings up the clean channel of the Marshall and the Chorus of the G-Force. Then for a lead I hit patch #8 and it brings up the distortion in the Marshall and the echo in the G-Force. This gives me more control than a combo foot pedal could.
